A USEFUL APPLICATION NAMED DUOLINGO

Hi everyone!

Today ı am here with a new task. I am supposed to introduce and write about an app that can be installed and used on a mobile device for language teaching/learning purposes. I chose an app named Duolingo for you. Of course, there are lots of applications which can be used on mobile devices for language teaching but I chose Duolingo because you have fun, while you learn, leveling up and competing with your friends.

Duolingo is a free language-learning platform that includes a language-learning website and app, as well as a digital language proficiency assessment exam. It is ad-free and offers all its language courses free of charge. As of April 2016, the language-learning website and app offer 59 different language courses across 23 languages; with 23 additional courses in development. The app is available on iOS, Android and Windows 8 and 10 platforms with over 120 million registered users across the world.

Because of its being a free app, you can play it freely. You should just download it and press the start button.You should choose how much time you will play it in a day.

 

You can choose any language that is available in Duolingo.

Duolingo provides extensive written lessons and dictation,with speaking practice for more advanced users and ıt has a vocabulary section where learned words can be practiced.

"HOW TO" MAKE AN ORIGAMI FROG

Hello everyone!

 This week our task was creating a Digital Storytelling.But first of all, let's give a brief definition of Digital Story. Digital storytelling is a relatively new term which describes the new  practice of ordinary people who use digital tools to tell their 'story'.

For our task our teacher gave us three DS options.The first option was talking about what it means to be good friends.The second option was "How to" project and the last one was creating a fictional story. For this project, i worked with my honey friend Şeyma Söylemez. We chose to make "How to" project and decided to explain How To Create an Origami Frog. Our project had to be no longer than 2 minutes so we couldn't take videos, we tried but it took nearly 9 minutes to make an origami frog thus we took photographs step by step. While ı was trying to form the frog, Şeyma photographed them and at the end of the work, we put together them in a program named Movie Maker. Then we added some music to it for its becoming more enjoyful.

When it comes to talk about advantages of collaborative working, it has so many positive effects on our outcome. We saved time, when we encountered problems we encouraged each other and it was easier to work in pairs in such a task which requires creative thinking. Finally, I 
want to talk about the contributions of creating a digital story to their language development. Because while studying English via Digital Storytelling, they will be aware of the fact that learning English may be enjoyful and when they are learning it they can also get fun.They can develop their pronunciation, writing ability, listening ability or thinking creatively.

MANY THINGS TO DO WITH ENGLISH: ESLgold

    Hello everyone! 

    This week i am again with you with a recommendation of a website whose main purpose is teaching English. But initially lets start with a definition of website. What is a website?

     A website, also written as web site, or simply site, is a collection of  related web pages,including multimedia content, typically identified with a common domain name, and published on at least one web server. The website that i chose for you is ESLgold.

What is the content of the website? Who is the target audience?

    ESLgold is a website which provides thousands of free resources and information for both students and teachers.All materials in it are organized by skill level for quick and easy access.The target audiences are students and teachers. You can choose your level and then you can improve your English level according to it.Unfortunately, there is no information about its author, as i researched.

    ESLgold has thousands of exercises about 4 major skills which are Speaking, Listening,Writing, Reading.There are grammar explanations,grammar exercises, topics for conversation,videos for vocabulary memorization or grammar rules and so on.There are also textbook recommendations for TOEFL/ TOEIC examinations.

      Some points that ı didn't like about ESLgold:

• This site would be more funny it there were many more learning games especially for young learners.
• We do not have any information about how often the site has been updated.

    Lastly i strongly recommend this website to teachers for being able to have lots of materials for their classes and i strongly recommend this to students and almost everyone who wants to be able to practice and study language out of the classroom.

What is RSS?

   Hello everyone! :)

Here ı am again with you with my assignment

about RSS. Lets first start with defining RSS.

   What is RSS?

   RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a kind of technology that is being used by millions of web users around the world to keep track of their favourite websites. It is an easy and suitable tool to save time by not visiting each web site indivually.

For my assignment ı prefered to use Feed Reader. But there are also other services like Bloglines and Google Reader which do the same service as Feed Reader. 

When it comes to talk about my favourite blog, it is http://ozgekaraoglu.edublogs.org/. In her blog, Özge Karaoğlu gives cool tools to inspire students to practice writing and promote their creative writing stories with some random pictures. I strongly recommend this blog to teachers if they really want to advance their students creativity. And finally here ı have a screenshot of my Feed Reader for you.

This Week's Funny Wiki Task: A Film Review

                                                                                  Hello again everyone!

   This week ı will share my wiki task with you which is about writing a fim review. For this task ı worked with my dear friend, Ezgi Türker. We watched a film named 3 Idiots which we had great time while watching it.

    Firsly we created an account on Wikipace. Then we wrote our film reviews on this page. We were supposed to add some images and the trailer of the film. In our last sentences about the film, we mentioned about whether we recommend it or not. Actually we explained why we are strongly recommending it.The most diffucult thing about writing a film review for a school magazine was to write it without giving spoiler but we managed it.

   As ı mentioned above, I worked on this task in collaboration with my dear friend and this ensured us to save time. Because, for example while one of us had difficulty in finding an adjective or making sentences, the other one helped or vice versa.Wikis give us opportunity to share our thoughts with a crowded audience, but it is not an advantage that anyone who wants to edit or delete your page can do it if your page allows it. Regardless of this, I strongly recommend using wikis as they will provide u lots of benefits.Okay. Now it is time to enjoy my film review!

BLOODY LETTER

Hello everyone! 

Our first assignment was podcasting and for this project ı worked with my dear friend Ezgi Türker. We were supposed to create a story and record it with sound effects for no longer than 2 minutes. Our lecturer gave us a list of words from which we had to choose 4 of them. And the first two sentences of the story were already given by our lecturer.We had also some difficulties while we try to complete our task. The most diffucult one was using sound effects in appropriate times. But after hard work we managed it.We thought that our work is suitable for B1 level learners. Finally, we honestly recommend it to teachers to implement in theirs classes if they really want to make their lessons funny :)

I am Sevilay. This is the first time that ı have ever had a blog. So ı am a little bit excited and curious about it. Because it seems very amazing that just by using your fingers you can share your thoughts with hundreds or maybe with thousands of people but of course thanks to "technology".
